It’s been said that “The greatest gift that you can give to others is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance.”
For all of her grandchildren, Grandma Irrer epitomized unconditional love.
She was the quintessential grandma. She baked bread and cookies, had a warm lap and a Snickers bar in the drawer, and she taught us all how to play cards.
Special treats included her fried bread dough (slices of dough fried in lard), “lump” soup (for when she didn’t have the time for the homemade noodles), chocolate sheet cake and ground bologna salad.
She taught me how to sew and how to bake and common sense and how to be a mother and the importance of keeping one’s temper.
In spite of all of the vast changes she saw in 99 years of living in the world, she always remained true to her gentle, giving nature.
Yesterday morning my beloved Grandma passed on. Aside from some physical limitations her health had been good. But she recently contracted a cold which lead to pneumonia and she could not fight it.
She leaves behind seven living children, 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren … and a big hole in my heart.
Sorry for your loss Pam. I know you loved your grandmother very much. You were blessed to have her in your life as long as you did. I hope she is smiling down on you from heaven.
Love Kathy
My dear friend; what a wonderful eulogy to your Gram. How much we share not only as friends and life events, but even our Grams that we loved so very dearly and made each of those around them feel as if they were the most special.
My heart cries for you and hugs your beautiful heart.
Hi,
I’m using Pure Type for my theme and having trouble posting an image in the “About” sidebar. I saw your post. I really like your blog. I’m trying to change one habit at a time but seems when I do, two new bad ones pop up. Kind of like “Whack-a-Mole”
Best wishes

LOL. Well I haven’t eliminated my bad habits, that’s for sure. I call this the “lazy person’s guide to success.” The road hasn’t been completely smooth but I am accomplishing far more these days towards reaching my goals.
I love Elegant Themes! Clearly I haven’t done as much with it as some folk, but I really like it the way it is designed. It took me about two weeks to get my image posted on the About sidebar. Reread the instructions that came with PureType – did you ftp your image to the directory?
Thanks for your comments!
Thank you Kimberly! Many of my friends met my Gram at one point or another and fell in love with her as well. Your support means so much to me!
Aww Kathy – thank you! Your support really means a lot to me. Hope to see you soon at Ralph’s!
