Changing my life … one habit at a time

Life is What Happens to You When You’re Busy Making Other Plans

Like a lot of people, I started out 2009 with more than one New Year’s resolution.

I started out with a plan: my self-designed “Two Habits a Week” method, created to pull me out of the bit of a muck my life had become, get in shape, create a successful Internet information business, become a better parent and – oh yeah – get organized and live in a perpetually immaculate home.

The crux of the plan lies, obviously, in creating two new habits every week to lead me closer to any one of my goals, while, simultaneously, maintaining the previous habits made.

So, how’ve I done?

Well, I have stuck rather religiously to my exercise routine.

My daughters and I have been closer (who would think that texting your sixteen year old every morning would make a difference, but it does) and have resolved some issues.

I’ve made eleven sales of my info product!!

I’ve made my bed every day!

On the other hand … I’d be lying if I told you that it’s been smooth sailing.

My diet has sucked with too much “white stuff” and not enough green.

Eleven online sales merely translates into “dinner and a movie” money – not “pay the mortgage money.”

My nicely made bed sits in the middle of a totaled bedroom (and badly cluttered office).

Last week I was really discouraged and depressed, wondering if, in fact, real change was possible. By Sunday evening, though, I realized that all was not lost and decided to get back on target.

But, before hopping back on the “Two Habits a Week” program, it’s time to take stock to figure out what went wrong – and congratulate myself on what went right!

I should tell you that I had a death in the family in March. The travel and funeral took up nearly a week that I wasn’t working on my business or priorities.

And, I’m once again debating the direction of my Internet business. Until you’re clear about where you want to go, it’s gonna be hard to get there. This week will call for some serious market research.

So what if I haven’t stuck to my “2 Habits a Week” method religiously. I’ve already seen positive change and I’m going to get up, dust myself off and get back to work!

What do you do when you’ve fallen off the wagon? What motivates you to get back on?

I would say that you go with the flow and dont try to control life….let life happen, just try and see if you can navigate the flow. At times we try to control situtations and when nothing happens we kind of feel stuck ( or off the wagon)…i would say that going with the flow of life is the only way of getting back on the wagon of life. Hope it helps!
