Ok, I admit it. I’ve always had rather high end tastes. From handbags to shoes to clothes to makeup and perfume (especially makeup and skincare!) to fabulous restaurants.
But a few years back my lifestyle changed. I divorced and was no longer a part of a double-income home. The economy took a real hit too, in case you hadn’t noticed. Little luxuries seemed like a thing of the past.
So long LaMer!
Ta ta to the Coach bags I used to buy for my daughters!
No more gorging on makeup at Neiman Marcus, dropping two to five hundred at a pop.
But I am not inclined to give up my lil luxuries and, so, I turned to eBay.
eBay is where I find my beloved Nars Vitamin Serum, which sells for $75 at Nordstroms for a mere $25 to $30 plus shipping.
eBay is where I sell old Coach bags for nearly what I paid for them – to buy new fakes from the sweetheart who sells really good ones out of the trunk of his car.
It’s where I can still find my long ago discontinued M.A.C. lipstick and my favorite loose powder that feels light as a cloud going on … Laura Mercier.
Even better, I pay for my little luxuries by selling stuff that’s lying around the house. So, when I sell some of the kids’ old “My Little Ponies” or a stack of old Harry Potter books, I turn right around and buy.
Granted there appear to be far fewer sellers these days than there were … oh, even a year ago. Still, for a girl on a limited budget, eBay sure comes in handy!
I still sell on ebay but its not as exciting as it was 4-5 years ago. Over the past few years they’ve made many changes that dont favor the smaller seller with rare finds in the attic that make Ebay exciting. Now they mainly cater to the big sellers like retail stores who want to get rid of their inventory on Ebay. I still sell when I need extra money but I dont get as excited about selling on Ebay as I used to. But I do use it to find great deals like you. I also use Craigslist to find awesome deals. I hope Ebay changes back to the fun marketplace for sellers and buyers like in 2005.
Me too. I LOVED eBay.
And now I’ve been suspended from selling – with 100% feedback – and no one at eBay can tell me why! When I contacted a number of eBay Trading Assistants to help me sell some items, they all told me that they were no longer selling on eBay because they were fed up!
