Simple Joys

Last month I put up a hummingbird feeder.

Since I was a child, I’ve been entranced by the idea of hummingbirds – but never seen one personally.   A neighbor informed me that, yes, we do have hummingbirds, so I bought a handmade feeder on ebay.

I watched for days after installing it on my deck, but was unrewarded by any sightings.

Then, as I had given up hope (from what I understand, the season is over mid-July), I passed by my deck right outside of my kitchen the other morning, and one lone hummingbird was feeding!

I’ve also put up a small, decorative bird house and filled it with suet.  That’s attracting charming little black and white finches.

It’s amazing how simple joys can brighten your day.
