Changing my life … one habit at a time

My Goals for 2009

You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. ~ Woodrow Wilson

I have always loved Tony Robins’ Goal Setting Workshop from his Get the Edge Workshop.  Tony encourages you to begin your “Massive Action Plan” by writing down everything that you want to accomplish in your life.

So, what is it, specifically, that I want to accomplish in 2009?

What do I want to accomplish in terms of improving myself as a mother, partner and human being, in terms of beginning a business, in terms of spirituality and health?

To start …

Parenting

Clearly one of my primary areas for improvement is that of mothering.  It’s not that I’m a bad mother.  I’m not.  In fact, one of my greatest gifts is that I love my two daughters unconditionally.  I accept and admire them for who they are and will never try to force them into traditional roles.

Where I am lacking is in teaching my children personal responsibility.

I believe that getting a handle on my own personal responsibility will help them greatly.

I am also lacking in the ability to provide for them in the way that I would like.  Not necessarily material things.  I would like to be in the position to send them to any college of their choosing.

Business/Finances

My second area needing improvement has to do with my “business.”  I wouldn’t yet call it a serious business – I have an ebook that’s been on the market for about a year.  Sales haven’t been tremendous, but I am now getting checks (albeit small onesJ) monthly and just scored my first affiliate!

However, my goal is to earn my living entirely on line as an Internet Marketer.  Right now I am receiving unemployment benefits and the goal is to never return to a job-job!

If other folks can make anywhere from $1 m to $6 m a year selling information products online, I should be able to make $100,000 my first year, right?

How do I plan on doing this?

That is still undetermined.  My original plan was to build around my original e-product, which is a system designed to simplify an organization’s grant proposal writing, with an entire suite of 4-6 products designed for the smaller nonprofit.

However, the nonprofit market tends to be both notoriously cheap and close-minded to new approaches so that original plan bears revision.

I will probably go with both affiliate marketing and perhaps products targeting another market altogether.

Health and Fitness

I’ve made great strides the past year in terms of my health.  Nearly two years ago I was devastated by the quick onslaught of some pretty painful psoriatic arthritis which actually left me bedridden for over a week.  There were other auto-immune disorders relating back to overuse of antibiotics.

I’m now eating more vegetables, hardly any processed food, and exercising daily.

I feel 100% better, both physically and mentally.  Gone are the days where an all day rain would send me to bed for the day in pain.

For 2009?  Despite my age, 2009 will be the year of my best body ever.  I have embarked on a rotation of weight training, running and yoga – and a high protein diet – designed to get me fit and fabulous.  More in later posts.

Finances

Are you lackadaisical about your financial affairs?  Well I sure am.  I haven’t atually balanced my checking account in years … investments?  Forget it.  Savings?  What’s that?

You get the picture.

I started out my “2 Habits a Week” plan with one habit to save – every day.  Most days it is only a dollar, but when I’ve got extra in my pocket it goes into my savings as well.

I’ll be addressing my financial shortcomings with my program and this blog as well.

Spirituality

Hey, I’m a nice person!  In 2009, though, I’ll be working on cultivating a sense of gratitude and that is why one of my first habits has been to thank someone every day.  It may be in person, via email, with a personal card (Trader Joe’s has beautiful 99 cent cards; I stocked up) or even on the phone.

So today I am thanking you, dear reader.  This blog and my 2 new habits a week are working … slowly but surely!
